About | Maranta was named for Bartolomeo Maranta, an Italian physician and botanist of the sixteenth century. The crowded oval, evergreen leaves are undivided with sheathing stalks. The leaves are flat by day and folded up as the day comes to an end, hence the common name “prayer plant” which attaches to the genus and its species – notably M. leuconeura. | ||||

Light | Put the plant near the window under indirect sunlight or diffused light. Avoid direct sun to protect the leaves against developing blotch or fading of colour. Can tolerate lower light intensity also. | ||||
Irrigation | The voyage to gain maturity, the plant should be irrigated to assure the medium mustn’t get dry but not over-irrigated. Always give irrigation when top medium starts drying. As the plant become dormant during winter, reduce the irrigation cycle.
For tap water, preserve the water 24 hrs to minimise the presence of salts, chlorine, fluoride etc. |
