About The name Garlic vine depict the unique property of the plant –  when the leaves smashed, it produces smell like garlic, but the plant or leaf doesn’t smell like garlic unless smashed. It is beautiful ornamental flowering vine with opposite leaves divided into two ovate leaflets. It produces numerous woody vines from the root that grow only 2-3 m tall and form a shrub-like appearance with bright green leaves up to 15 cm long.

The flowers are another amazing fact. A bi-colour flower with purple body and a white throat at the initiation, changes to lavender and ends up with white. So in this way one can see the plant contains three different colour of bloom at a time. Flowering occurs twice a year.

Origin Native to Northern South America, and has spread to Central America and Brasil.
Soil For outdoor planting – well drained, sandy loam soil with pH value 5.0 – 6.5 is most suitable.

When grown as potted houseplant, use well drained, aerated, loamy, organic matter enriched potting medium GrowpoT–H. Sterilised to reduce the risk of fungal infection & root rot. pH value 5.0 – 6.5.

Pruning For proper flowering, the plant required to be pruned after each flowering season.
Light For outdoor planting – grow well in full sun to half shade conditions.

When grown as potted houseplant, place the plant under indirect or diffused light. Best to place the plant near an east or south-east facing window or at balcony.

Irrigation Watering should be regular & thorough. During the hot dry season, it can take twice a day watering.

For tap water, preserve the water 24 hrs to minimise the presence of salts, chlorine, fluoride etc.
